The XXIV Winter Olympic Games of Beijing 2022 kick off today.
The Politecnico - the only foreign designer involved in the architectural interventions realized for the Olympics - participated in the masterplan of the Big Air site designed by Tsinghua University, transforming the Shougang Oxygen Factory into the Visitor Center.
A presentation of the project for the Visitor Center in Shougang:
The project, carried out by the Department of Architecture and Design-DAD (China Room) involving different engineering skills of the University, transformed the old factory into a large covered square. The main volume is suspended above the original concrete skeleton, while beyond the roof small club-houses emerge offering new observation points towards the Olympic site and the industrial landscape.
