Career Day 2019

The Politecnico’s Career Day proves, once again, to be an appointment not to be missed: the concluding event of Oriented to the Future, which saw 5,000 students attend, is always highly anticipated by those graduating and those who have just graduated since it allows them to meet protagonists of the world of work.

The number of businesses present at the event, and interested in hiring young people trained at the Politecnico, or in placing them on internships, was also positive: this year’s edition attracted 100 businesses, evidence of the fact that the Politecnico di Torino’s graduates are extremely sought-after by companies’ HR departments. In fact, the University offers excellent employment prospects for its own graduates. The employment rate one year after the master’s degree in engineering is 90.6%, compared to a national average of 87.5%, and for architecture it is 73.2%, compared with 70.6% (data source: Almalaurea - 2018 survey - final ISTAT [Italian National Institute of Statistics] labour force survey).   

As well as being able to meet recruiters from important national and international businesses, graduates and final year students attended presentations by specific businesses during the Career Day. Students will be taking great care in polishing their Curriculum Vitae: the staff of the University’s Stage & Job Office were available for young people at a CV Corner. Here, students could directly update their CVs and access, via a QR code, videos dedicated to professional orientation.

The Career Day is, however, only one of the activities dedicated to placement support that the University organises for its students. During the year, students can make the most of initiatives aimed at facilitating their entering the world of work: recruitment events, work orientation courses, and series of themed meetings are just a few examples. Businesses can also find assistance and points of contact at the Stage & Job office for reaching, in a targeted way, interesting professionals.

A new feature of the 2019 edition was the round table “Diversity: opportunities for the world of work” that discussed the theme of disability in the world of work; it was a time for sharing, comparing, and recounting experiences and best practice. Arianna Montorsi, the Rector’s Advisor on Equal Opportunities and Initiatives for the Assistance, Social Integration and Rights of Disabled Persons, opened the proceedings. Participants took bearings on the wait lists with a representative of the Turin Municipality and outlined innovative instruments for the creation of work opportunities for people with disabilities, thanks to the contribution of APL Regione  Piemonte [Regional Employment Agency]. Marisa Pavone, President of the national university conference of disability delegates, discussed the difficulties of having a disability in the university context, and the positive experiences of the business AVIO were recounted.
